...And God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, on the earth.” And it was so. The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their own kinds, and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind. And God saw that it was good...

Gingerbread and Aromatherapy Playdough | 12 Days of Crunchy Christmas Day 5

Hey Everyone! My little brother joined me for today's post/vlog, and did a great job! He had a lot of fun, and I hope you enjoy!

Today my little brother and I show you how we make gingerbread play dough. This is our favorite gift to make for his friends. We made it for the first time last Christmas, and it was a huge success, so we had to make another batch. This year we also made a batch of aromatherapy play dough with essential oils. You'll have to watch the video to find out how to make the gingerbread play dough, but I'll tell you here how we made the aromatherapy play dough.

Gingerbread Playdough
\

Peppermint Aromatherapy Play dough
1 Tablespoon oil
1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 cup water
Organic Essential Oils
{I used peppermint lavender for one (are you having deja vu?) and orange lavender for the other.}
Organic Flavor Extract (optional) {I used Organic Peppermint Extract from MRH)

Add first five ingredients into saucepan and mix, and cook over medium heat. After it's cooked for a bit, just as it's thickening, add essential oils and (optional) flavoring oil. I used 2-5  drops lavender as my base, then I seperated this, and add peppermint extract (2 -3 drops) and peppermint essential oil (3-5 drops) to one and orange essential oil to the other. Stir over the heat until it forms a ball of dough. Remove from heat let it cool for a moment and knead until smooth. Let cool and store in an airtight container or bag.

I would suggest only using essential oils in play doughs intended for older children. Little littles will be inclined to eat the dough, and though essential oils are mostly safe even internally, you want to be careful, especially if this is a gift!

What a great video! Your brother did an awesome job! Thanks for the smiles!

We used to make playdough too but we never tried giving it a scent! That's such a great idea! I'll have to try this with my nieces and nephews.

Now can I play with it? :) Love it!
