Hello again! Today I am posting the recipe I use for deodorant. I mix it up in a little vintage powder jar, but you could really use any container with a lid. All you'll need is some cornstarch, baking soda, and essential oil. Remember this is a deodorant, not an antiperspirant
Powder Deodorant
1/2 cup Cornstarch
1/2 cup Baking Soda
Anti bacterial essential oil - this recipe recommends cinnamon, rose, birch, or lavender. Also recommended later on is a blend of eucaplytus and wintergreen. I would imagine that would be a great blend for the guys, if they don't want to smell "flowery" ;)
I personally use lavender, just 'cause it's a great scent and essential oil!
Place powder in a jar, add essential oils (I use about 20 drops) stir and cover. Dampen (very slightly, I recommend dampening with a spray bottle) a powder puff, cotton ball or sea sponge dab in the mixture and pat on underarms.
You can also grind dried herbs into a powder and blend that as well. Recommend are Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme (are you going to Scarborough fair?)
I first started this using a wash cloth, and it just made a huge mess. I finally made my own powder puff type thing, I simple took a circle of fleece, and a circle of cotton. I laid a ribbon across the right side of the cotton fabric, and put the right side of the fleece on top of the ribbon and right side of the cotton. I sewed around the fabric, making sure to enforce the ribbon area, and leaving an opening opposite the ribbon, so stuff it. After sewing I turned it right side out and stuffed it with bamboo stuffing, and whip-stitched the opening closed. Voila! My own powder puff! I've actually made two of them, the first one I took traveling, and my shampoo spilled all over it. I didn't bother to wash it, I just pitched it, because bamboo filling doesn't do very well in the washer, and so I just made a new one. I think it would do fine in the washer if you used regular polyfill though. I have a picture of mine, but it's on my parent's computer, so I'll have to post it later.
Enjoy!
